My name is Iris, I am six years old, and I am in the first grade. I live on a farm with six horses. My pony Lacey is nineteen years old. I practiced all summer with Lacey so we could go on the CHAMP Trail Ride. The CHAMP Ride is important to me because I donated Casper to CHAMP last year. The ride was so much fun; I galloped and galloped. I jumped over a big, big log. I want to ride in the CHAMP Trail Ride the next year, and the next year, and the next. "What a great day for a ride!" "What a great day for a ride!" shouted CHAMP President Denise White, loud enough for the 31 riders and their horses spread out over the beautiful sunny field at Eagle Camp in South Hero. The trail riders and the three 'phantom' trail riders gathered there for a picnic lunch at a the halfway point during the 10th Annual CHAMP Trail Ride on September 16th. She thanked the riders as they ate while the many volunteers held their horses and helped make and serve the hamburgers, hot dogs, salads, cakes and cookies. Some of the trail riders were from South Hero, others traveled from places near and far -- Burlington, S. Burlington, Charlotte, Fairfield, Franklin, Grand Isle, Hinesburg, Huntington, Milton, Williston, St Albans VT and Peru NY. "This year's ride was a stupendous success because of the efforts of the riders, the volunteers and the board of CHAMP. To all who participated in any way, your help is much appreciated, thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!!!" Rose Wright, co-chair and founder of the CHAMP Trail Ride. ". . .this volunteer driven, non-profit organization, has been making a difference in the lives of challenged individuals since 1987, the care of horses and providing certified instructors is an expensive proposition. For the past 10 years CHAMP has held a benefit trail ride to raise funds. To participate we need to raise $100 each. Will you help us?" This is part of a note collegues Monica and Patty sent to their co-workers, family and friends. They were among this years wonderful group of riders who ranged in age from 6 to 60 and raised almost $7200 to assist CHAMP to continue to provide horseback riding therapy to children and adults with a variety of challenges. "Anyone who observes how a challenged child's eyes light up when they've experienced riding a horse and see how it changes their world, they too can experience the joy of participating in this program." Rose Wright. Our Fall Program began it's six week span last Wednesday. We still need volunteers to participate on Wednesday and Saturday afternoons from 12 until 4:30. For more information and registration forms go to www.vtchamp.org or call Mike at marleyshea@yahoo.com (802) 355-9426. (See below) Start fundraising now to pay for your ride Since 1996, Denise White and Rose Wright have guided horses and riders on a tour through the hills and dales of scenic South Hero beginning at Rose Wright's Tara North Stables. It is a spectacular three to six hour ride and even better it raises funds for the good work of the Champlain Adaptive Mounted Program, CHAMP. CHAMP Volunteers will be there to get you started, hold your horses at the half-way mark while you enjoy a lake-front lunch prepared and served by CHAMP Volunteers. The cost of the day is a minimum contribution of $100 and prizes will be given for the largest contributions. The idea is to get your friends and family to sponsor you by making donations to your minimum. We'd love all horse riders to participate in the ride, but you don't need to ride to participate. You can be a phantom rider and just raise funds and/or volunteer to help in the program or with the Trail Ride. CHAMP began it's program of therapeutic riding for people with special needs in 1987 and has made the lives of its many riders better in numerous ways. CHAMP riders arrive on foot, with canes or crutches and in wheel chairs. Once on a horse they are empowered in ways no other activity can provide. Your participation in this event will help us continue and hopefully to expand our program. Ride with us! From the President’s Stall
This is our major fund raiser and you can help it be a great success in several other ways: • Be a Phantom Rider and collect donations for CHAMP
